Council Resolution
Sample motion passed at local council:
(Insert council) supports the principles of the Northern Ireland Fairtrade campaign based on the following actions:
Actively promote Fairtrade both internally and externally at the council and seek opportunities to support Fairtrade across the council area;
Explore tendering and public procurement of Fairtrade products within the council’s own purchasing policies and implement Fairtrade wherever possible;
Appoint elected representatives and staff from the council to the Fairtrade Steering Committee.
(Insert council) further resolves to contribute to the regional Fairtrade campaign by passing a resolution supporting Fairtrade, and agrees to serve Fairtrade products (for example, in meetings, offices, canteens and hospitality), as well as, striving to increasing awareness and uptake of Fairtrade certified products by working towards achieving and maintaining the Fairtrade Communities status (entire council area - borough, city or district) through the Fairtrade Action Campaign Guide.
